- 1562: The French Wars of Religion officially start when 63 Huguenots are murdered in Wassy, France.
- 1565: Rio de Jeneiro is founded as a city on this day.
- 1628: According to writs issued in February of 1628, today is the date that all towns must pay a ship tax in England. Previously only seaport towns had to pay a ship tax.
- 1642: Georgeana, Massachusetts is officially incorporated as a city. This city – which is now known as York, Maine – is considered to be the oldest incorporated city in the U.S.
- 1692: Tituba, Sara Good and Sara Osborne are brought in front of Salem Village’s local magistrate. This would be the beginning of the Salem Witch Trials.

- 1867: Nebraska enters the United States as the 37thS. State. The name of Lancaster, Nebraska is changed to Lincoln and is made the state capital of the state.
- 1872: Yellowstone National Park is found and becomes the first national park in the entire world.
- 1881: The Minnesota State Capitol burns to the ground.
- 1893: The first public demonstration of radio is given by Nikola Tesla in the city of St. Louis, Missouri.
