Aged Care Employee Day

Every August 7th is observed as Aged Care Employee Day. It’s a day that’s dedicated to appreciating the hard work and dedication of aged care employees. These professionals are tasked with making sure that the elderly receive the support and care that they need to live a comfortable and dignified life.

On this day, people take the opportunity to show these professionals the appreciation they deserve for providing the elderly with selfless service. Although this holiday hasn’t been around for very long, it has managed to also raise the public’s awareness about the importance of elderly care and this has prompted more people to advocate on behalf of those elderly patients who can’t speak for themselves.

The History Of Aged Care Employee Day

This holiday was first established after the Australian Government established the National Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce. The purpose of this task force was to address the challenges that are faced by the aged care sector and to give them the support they need to strengthen their workforce and support those who are already working in elderly care.

Aged Care Employee Day was first observed on August 7th, 2015 and it’s been a holiday that attempts to raise the public’s awareness about the importance of elderly care to increase public support, as well as support current elderly care workers. Elderly care is something that’s been practiced by various civilizations and cultures all throughout history.

This is especially true in areas where the elderly were respected and revered. Even today, it’s considered to be an honor to care for an elderly family member. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case in every culture. After the Industrial Revolution led to the breakdown of the traditional family structure, the elderly were often left to their own devices.

That has been the case in many areas of the world over the past few years. However, there is hope that this trend can be reversed and society can go back to caring for some of its most vulnerable members.

Observing Aged Care Employee Day

This is the perfect day for people to show some appreciation to the staff at an Aged Care Facility. If a person has an elderly family member in such an institution, they can bring the staff a gift such as flowers to show appreciation to them for their efforts.

If people don’t have family in one of these institutions, they can still show appreciation to aged care staff around the world by thanking them with the hashtag #AgedCareEmployeeDay on social media. On this day, it’s also a good idea to let politicians know how important aged care is and to increase funding for this sector.
