Central Province Day

The Central Province is a province that’s located in the Solomon Islands and is just one of the 9 provinces that are located in that nation. This province covers 237 square miles across the Russell Islands, the Florida Islands, and Savo Islands. As of the 2010 census, this area has a population of approximately 26,000+ people.

It’s in this area that people celebrate Central Province Day, a public holiday that’s observed every year in June and is a day off for the general population. It’s also a day when government offices, schools, and many businesses are closed for the day.

The History Of Central Province Day

This holiday was created in 1981 as Provincial Second Appointed Day and its 40th anniversary was observed on June 29th, 2021. During the celebration for that year, there was a liquor ban on June 29th and 20th for bottle shops. The superintendent of the island also urged everyone to respect the rule of law. This is because past celebrations haven’t always been peaceful.
