Diet Resolution Week

Celebrated during the first week of January, Diet Resolution Week is designed to lend support to people who are dedicated to losing weight during the coming year. One of the most popular New Year resolutions for most people is to lose weight, and this week is designed to help people bring that resolution to fruition.

Unfortunately, only about 75% of resolutions are kept past the first week. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. People can use this week to become proactive about their health and work towards a more healthy weight. This can be done by working closely with one’s doctor and by removing “unhealthy” foods from one’s home.

The History Of Diet Resolution Week

Although we’re unsure of exactly when this holiday week was created, we do know that it was created by the Vegetarian Awareness Network that’s based in Knoxville, Tennessee. And that actually makes quite a lot of sense. A recent study has shown that people who went on vegetarian diets lost almost 5-pounds more than people who made no diet changes whatsoever. And for people who became vegan, the results were even more dramatic as diet participants lost almost twice what the vegetarian group lost.

Observing Diet Resolution Week

Before observing Diet Resolution Week, we encourage everyone to consult with their doctor or other healthcare professional. Once a person has done that and has been cleared for the diet they want to go on, they can then choose how they want to lose weight. There are a number of diets available that a person can  do, but people also need to be mindful to avoid “fad diets.”

Of course, a person doesn’t have to go on a full diet during this week. Small changes to a person’s diet can have a dramatic effect over the course of a year. Doing something such as adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet daily, or eating more fish during the week can improve a person’s health and help them lose weight slowly over time.
