National 7-Eleven Day

National 7-Eleven Day is a holiday that’s observed annually on July 11th, or 7/11, every single year. On this day, it’s usually possible to get special discounts and/or Slurpees from your local 7-11 convenience store—although some years it has been canceled.

This convenience store was first founded in 1927 as an icehouse storefront in Dallas, Texas, and eventually became one of America’s biggest convenience store chains. Although the word “national” is used in the name of this holiday, this isn’t a public holiday but is instead a marketing holiday that helps to draw more people into 7-Eleven on this day.

National 7-Eleven Day History

7-Eleven would begin as a Dallas icehouse storefront in 1927 but became Tote’m Stores between 1928 and 1946. Today, 7-Eleven has 71,100 stores in 17 different countries as of 2020. Although this convenience store chain has a long history, the holiday National 7-Eleven Day doesn’t have a history that’s quite that long.

In 2002, 7-Eleven stores celebrated National 7-Eleven Day for the first time. To get customers to come into the store, they offered free Slurpees and other beverages. This holiday has been celebrated faithfully ever since, although there are two years in which the event was canceled. That was in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, they did give a coupon for a free Slurpee on this day to people who had the 7-Eleven Rewards app.

Observing National 7-Eleven Day

The logical way to celebrate this holiday is by taking advantage of any free or reduced-price products that 7-Eleven might be offering for the day. It’s also a good day to treat friends and family members to their favorite flavor of Slurpee. And finally, for everyone wishing to spread the word about this holiday, they can do so by using the hashtag #National7-11Day on their social media posts for the day.
