National App Day

Observed annually on December 11th, National App Day is a holiday that encourages everyone to do something that they probably already do every day anyway, and that something is to interact with their favorite apps. Every day, most of us have to interact with the apps—otherwise known as software applications—on our phones or computer to get things done.

We use messaging and social media apps to interact with other people, calendar apps to manage our days, and even collaboration apps to get things done at work. Software applications have totally changed the way we interface with and use technology on a daily basis.

The History Of National App Day

National App Day was first created by CJ Thompson of Platinum Edge Media to observe the importance of apps in our daily lives. He created it in 2017 and it’s been a holiday that people observe ever since.

  • People who own tablets spend three times the money on apps than smartphone users.
  • Approximately 90% of a person’s mobile time is spent using apps.
  • There are approximately 1.5-times more Android apps than iOS apps.
  • Thousands of different apps are downloaded every day.
  • Even though there are close to 10 million apps, most people use just 10 apps a day.

Observing National App Day

This holiday is the perfect day for people to think about the apps they use and make sure that they’re probably updated. It’s also a good day for people to ditch those apps off of their phones that they’re no longer using.

Unused apps not only take up storage space, but they can also use other system resources such as memory, so people should get rid of unused ones. People can also use the hashtag #NationalAppDay on their favorite social media apps to let everyone know they’re observing this holiday.
