National Day in Monaco
In Monaco, the 19th of November is known as H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s Day, La Fête du Prince, or simply as National Day. This is a holiday that commemorates the ascension of Prince Albert II to the throne on this date in 2005. It’s a holiday that’s the official National Day of Monaco and is celebrated with almost 2-days of events.

The History Of National Day In Monaco
This holiday began during the reign of Prince Charles III in the 19th century. The date of this holiday would change depending on who was in charge or what saint the prince was named. On November 19th, 1949, Prince Rainier III ascended to the throne.
Prince Rainier III ruled for 56-years and changed Monaco immensely. He extended the territory by a fifth by extension on the sea and he enacted numerous urban development programs. In 2005, Prince Albert II succeeded his father and decided to pay homage to him by dedicating National Day on November 19th. This was the date of the Prince’s ascension to the throne, as well as the ascension of his father to the throne.
Observing National Day In Monaco
This holiday is so chock full of events, it’s difficult to list all of them in a single holiday article, but we’ll give it a go. This holiday begins with a fireworks display over Port Hercule Harbor on the evening of the 18th. The next morning, there is a mass at St. Nicholas Cathedral and a children’s show and evening gala held at Espace Léo Ferré.
The next thing to pay attention to is the parade in front of the Palace that features state officials in full uniform, ambassadors, consuls, and even the Knights of Malta. All across the country, there are also concerts, festivals, and other special events as well.
