National Everything You Think Is Wrong Day
Observed annually on March 15th, Everything You Think Is Wrong Day is a holiday that encourages people to think more closely about their beliefs and to correct the wrongs that are wrong. Let’s face facts, every single person on this planet has some thoughts or beliefs that are just plain wrong at some point in their lives, so it’s important for people to lead a self-reflective life and to challenge everything that they believe in on a regular basis. And that’s all people are being asked to do on this day. Just take the day to avoid making important decisions and instead think about your belief system.
The History Of Everything You Think Is Wrong Day
Evidently, everything that we think is also wrong because we thought that we could uncover the origin of this holiday and that hasn’t been the case. Try as we might, we couldn’t find out who invented it or when it was invented.
Facts About Cognitive Distortions
We wanted to list all of the ways that people can have beliefs or thoughts that are wrong even though they believe that it’s accurate. Fortunately, we were able to find what we were looking for, so we decided to share them with everyone reading this in anticipation of celebrating Everything You Think Is Wrong Day.
Overgeneralization
The one mistake that a lot of us are guilty of making is overgeneralizing. This is when a very general conclusion is reached based on a single piece of evidence or on a single incident. A person sees this one piece of “evidence” and thinks that it applies universally to every incidence.
All Or Nothing Thinking
This is something that’s seen on the Internet every single day. People will group things into either “the best thing ever” or into the “worst thing ever.” It doesn’t matter if it’s a party, movie, or a piece of music. In reality, most things fall into shades of gray, and things shouldn’t be praised or dismissed so easily.
Mental Filtering
Another distorted thought pattern is the tendency to ignore positive examples of a situation and instead focus entirely on the negatives. This can result in people having a negative perspective of not only other people or circumstances but themselves as well.
Reasoning With Your Emotions
Another thing that people do is to reason with their emotions. This means that they believe that their feelings about a situation are a reliable indicator of the reality of the situation. Although it’s important to express and listen to your emotions, it’s also important to make sure emotions don’t color a particular situation.
Observing Everything You Think Is Wrong Day
As we said in our intro, this is a holiday in which people are encouraged to avoid making any major decisions, if they can, because more than likely they’re maybe an error in judgment lurking in their thinking process. The only thing that a person should be doing on this holiday is spreading the word about this holiday using the hashtag #EverythingYouThinkIsWrongDay.
