National Heroes Day in Bermuda

National Heroes Day is a public holiday in Bermuda that’s observed annually and honors the Bermudans who have made significant contributions to Bermudian society. This holiday is observed on the third Monday in June and is observed with a ceremony that honors the people who are selected to be Bermuda’s next heroes.

And this is quite an honor since once a person has become a national hero, they will remain one for the rest of their life. This holiday was first observed in 2008 and has been observed every year since. The first national hero was Dame Lois Browne-Evans.

The History Of National Heroes Day In Bermuda

National Heroes Day would become a national holiday in Bermuda when it replaced Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday as an official holiday. It was designed as a holiday that honors men and women who did selfless acts of public service to make a better country.

As we mentioned above, it’s a lifetime honor to be a national hero. Some of the past national heroes honored on this day include Sir Edward Trenton Richards, Mary Prince, and Sir John Swan.
