National Macaroon Day

National Macaroon Day is a holiday that’s observed annually on the 31st of May and celebrates the small biscuit that’s made from ground almonds, coconut, sugar, and a combination of other ingredients. It’s not to be confused with a Macaron-a French dessert that’s made using two light meringue biscuits that have been put together with ganache between them.

A Macaroon is instead a cookie, or sometimes a mound of shredded coconut and egg, that’s baked into a delicious cookie. And while you’re celebrating this holiday, be sure to use the hashtag #NationalMacaroonDay to spread the word about these cookies and this holiday to people who may not know about them.
