National Scrabble Day

National Scrabble Day is a holiday that’s celebrated on the 13th of April every year and celebrates what is probably one of the most iconic games of all time. Scrabble is a game that has been around for over 70+ years and is played by people all over the world. In fact, this game is sold in over 120+ countries and is available in 30 different languages, so perhaps this holiday is one that more people should take the time to celebrate.

The History Of Scrabble

The history of National Scrabble Day is beyond our reach, so we’ve decided to talk about the history of the game instead. Scrabble is a game that was first created as the game Criss-Cross—a game that was based on anagram puzzles and crosswords. This game was developed by Alfred M. Butts in 1931. Eventually, this game would be redesigned and renamed as Scrabble. It was marketed to the general public in 1948 by James Brunot and was sold in Great Britain in 1954.
