Republic Day in India
Republic Day in India is a public holiday that’s observed annually on the 26th of January. This day commemorates the date in 1950 when the Indian Constitution came into effect. This constitution replaced the Government of India Act of 1935 which had previously been used as India’s governing document.

Because this holiday is a public one in India, it’s a non-working day, and most businesses, government agencies, and schools are closed.
The History Of Republic Day In India
On January 26th, 1950, India’s Constitution was adopted. This transformed the country from a British commonwealth to a sovereign republic and ended Lord Mountbatten’s role as India’s Governor-General.
The Indian Constitution took almost three years to draft and the committee assigned to draft it was headed by Dr. BR Ambedkar. The date for when the Constitution was adopted was chosen because it was on that date in 1930 that the Declaration of Indian Independence was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress.

This holiday is not only celebrated with a day off and with the closing of public institutions but it’s also celebrated with a fair amount of fun. On this day, there are parades, cultural events, historical exhibitions, and people sing patriotic songs.
It’s not only a day for people in India to enjoy their independence, but it’s also a day to celebrate the cultural unity of the country. It’s also a day that includes a full week of activities and political speeches. The one thing that’s not enjoyed on this holiday, however, is alcohol. It’s forbidden to sell alcohol on this day.
