Wine Day in Moldova

Wine Day in Moldova is a holiday that’s observed on the first weekend of October every year. Although it’s a holiday that’s widely observed across the country, it’s not a public holiday, so businesses operate according to their normal hours.

It’s a day for everyone to enjoy Moldova’s rich wine culture and dozens of winemakers from across the country show up in ChiÈ™inău center to show off their wares. From this central location in the Republic of Moldova’s capital, special wine events spread out all across the countryside for people to enjoy. Each winery in the country has special events designed to pique the public’s interest and get them to visit.

The History Of Wine Day In Moldova

Because of its location on the Black Sea, Moldova quickly became a prime location for winemaking. That’s because grapevines were brought to the country during the 6th century BC when the Greeks colonized the area.

Wine production was further expanded when the Romans arrived and continued to grow through the Middle Ages with many Christian monasteries in the area contributing to the wine-making culture. When Moldova was a part of the Soviet Republic, much of the world was cut off from Moldova’s wines.

That would change in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union and wine culture in the country began to transform. Now, Moldova has some of the most interesting wines in the world.
